On 29th April 2019, about 30 or 40 supporters of the Oxford affiliation of Extinction Rebellion attended the council meeting at Oxford Town Hall.

The motion being debated was about setting a target of 2030 for Oxford to be carbon-neutral. Now Oxford City Council has a pretty good track record in reducing carbon emissions (at least compared with other local authorities), and the motion was well-intentioned (though not sufficiently ambitious in my view), but - and it's a big but - an amendment was passed which abdicates responsibility for action to the Citizens Assembly.

We interviewed two of the Liberal Democrat Councillors who gave their views on the debate and subsequent vote. Here is the video that I shot:

We have a climate emergency. We can't just leave this to the politicians. Every single one of us is accountable for the future of our planet and must answer to the generations who follow us.
